When I chose this topic, it was because this is one near and dear to me. Patron privacy and confidentiality are so important to librarianship that it is specifically mentioned in the ALA’s Code of Ethics: 3. We protect each library user’s right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted.
